If you don’t like blue, just don’t come to our house, because we are blue people, people! Last year we painted our exterior Sherwin Williams Anchors Aweigh, and it’s the perfect exterior color. I’m totally obsessed with it, so, naturally, I thought I’d paint our kitchen cabinets that color too. But what looks good on an exterior doesn’t always translate to interior mostly because of lighting. Today’s post is just a quick color compare for those wanting a dark blue kitchen cabinet color. We’ve got them painted now, and I’m super happy with our choice. So, if you are wanting dark blue kitchen cabinets, check out this color comparison – I hope it helps you!
These are unedited photos of three Sherwin William color choices, Anchors Aweigh, Naval, and Gale Force. I had some spare cabinet doors, so I went ahead and painted them to help me really see the color. I realize it’s hard in photos to really see a color like it actually is, but I would describe Anchors Aweigh as super dark and maybe a bit harsh on the eyes inside (like I said, outside, it’s gorgeous). Naval, which ended up being our choice, is a great dark blue, but it has a softness to it as an interior color. Interestingly enough, we considered Naval for our exterior, but nixed it because in some lights it looks purple (as an interior color it has never looked that way to me though). Gale Force is soft but has a grey tone to it – it is super pretty too, but I just wanted more of a true blue. Gale Force would be a pretty safe choice if you want dark but on the more neutral side.
We are going with gold hardware and white subway tile (see kitchen vision here), so here are the cabinets staged a bit.
So, it’s Sherwin Williams Naval for our kitchen, and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. The reno is still in progress, but here’s a progress photo that shows the true color well.
Here are three kitchens using these colors, courtesy of Pinterest, that might also help.
You can also see some other photos of Naval as in interior color in my son’s bedroom (yep, we like blue). I hope this was helpful to you – happy painting!
