Painted Arch Accent Wall That’s Both Modern and Traditional

Our super long hallway upstairs was just screaming for some pizzazz at the end cap. I love to mix styles, so I went for this modern and traditional painted arch accent wall. I love how the super traditional profile silhouettes look on the modern arch painted on the wall. Bonus, it was a super quick and easy update to a blank and boring wall. This tiny little wall now stands out with its own little personality; walls are people too, right?

I ordered the silhouettes from this shop on Etsy, and they aren’t prints; they are laser cut. so you could back them with anything of your choosing (I kept them on the white they were delivered with). You simply take a profile picture and send it in. You also get a proof and a chance to request modifications. My pictures were not very good at all – my three year old was particularly wiggly that day, but I didn’t even need to make any modifications to the proofs, and I was very happy with the final product.

The arch was also surprisingly easy to freehand paint, and this is coming from a girl that uses that blue painter’s tape for everything. All you need is an angled brush and small amounts of paint at the edges, and you’re golden. I followed this tutorial on drawing and painting the arch. It’s the old pencil on a string method, just kidding, that’s not a thing, BUT, pencil on a string here does the trick beautifully. The arch color is Sherwin Williams Courtyard.

The upstairs hallway is an ongoing project, but I’m happy with how this one wall turned out – baby steps! Thanks for letting me share this small but impactful little victory of mine – I hope this inspires you to add something interesting to your home today!
