Woo hoo! The Kitchen Renovation is Finally Complete!

This one took a minute, but, yes, the kitchen renovation is finally complete! It’s dark blue, bright white, pink, and subway tiley all over. And, of course, it features some killer wallpaper because, well, it’s pretty hard for me to redo any room without wallpaper. I hope you can draw some inspiration from this little kitchen reveal.

When we started down this path, I posted about my vision for the kitchen, and I’m happy to say that we really stuck pretty close to it. Truth be told, the wallpaper actually entered the design because we found that tiling over that area was pretty challenging. So, we punted and just put wallpaper up, but I love how it breaks it up. Here’s the kitchen at a glance.

Here are the basics of this renovation:

  • Refaced and painted cabinets (color Sherwin Williams Naval)
  • New (and much larger) kitchen island
  • Old 90’s style kitchen desk turned into coffee bar (height raised to match the rest of the kitchen)
  • Subway tile backsplash to the ceiling (white subway tile with charcoal grout)
  • New farm sink

I’ll just highlight a few details of this beauty. First up, my pink window! All I’ll say is that if you want to paint your kitchen window a fun color to make you happy while you wash dishes, do it! You won’t regret it. This color is Sherwin Williams Koral Kicks which I’ve used several places (dining room being one). One thing I kept finding is that most pictures of a painted window had it painted all the way to the glass, but I really just wanted to paint the wood frame part, so that’s what I did, and I think it looks perfectly fine this way.

Next, it was out with the 90’s era kitchen desk that nobody uses. This we did have to get a new cabinet for, because I wanted the counter height to match the rest of the kitchen. The height change really helped the kitchen to feel more balanced. If you are doing something similar, consider the following that we added to ours. It has really made our kitchen very functional.

  • Two large file cabinet drawers. We use one as a file cabinet, and we put a small trash can in the other for our K-cups (no need to walk a step out of your way in this kitchen!)
  • Large, shallow drawers for office items (e.g., envelopes, stamps, scissors)
  • Large drawers deep enough for electronic devices (keep those guys off the counters!)
  • Place for an internet router if needed (more on that in a sec!)

I got weirdly obsessed with hiding the internet router, but, after looking at a bunch of options, I opted to just sit it on the open shelving and hide it by putting cookbooks up beside it. We did have to move the electrical to that area so that we wouldn’t have cords showing all over the place. As far as concealing this eyesore, I think it blends in pretty nicely!

Okay, let’s just zoom in on this gorgeous wallpaper. This is from Spoonflower by designer beshkakueser. It’s bold, but, to me, that’s the only way to go!

This print I just designed myself (I can draw circle!) and had it printed, but it sums up my life pretty good right now. And I don’t have a great picture of it, but I’m also pretty excited about my solution to get the dog bowls off the floor – no moving stuff to vacuum, yay!

And that’s a wrap on the kitchen renovation that would never end. But end it has, and I love coming home to this kitchen! Happy renovating! P.S. more details on products, colors, and such can be found in the kitchen mood board post!
