I have been loving the layered curtain look, but I’ve had some trouble finding lots of great examples online. So, today, I’ll share three examples of layered curtains that I’ve put in my house for a little layered curtain inspiration. I love the extra interest and texture that they add. It’s also a great way to lighten up room darkening curtains (which are a must for us in my daughter’s room).
When layering curtains, I like to go heavier on the outer and light on the inner. Here, in our dining room, I layered this mustard-colored velvet with a sheer inner curtain. Double curtain rods are readily available, making layering curtains easy peasy. This is the double rod I used in our dining room.
In our living room I layered this pink velvet curtain from Target (I know I’ve seen it in the store, but I can’t seem to find it online) with a curtain panel that I actually made from some textured fabric I bought off of Etsy. Curtain panels are pretty much the easiest possible thing you can sew – just cut the right size piece of fabric, hem edges, fold down the top to make a loop for the curtain rod and sew that across the top.
And, lastly, here are the layered curtains in my daughter’s room. Top layer is this purple velvet curtain, and the bottom is a lighter, patterned curtain. Girl needs room darkening curtains, so this allows for that but with more interest.
I’m loving the curtains in all three of these rooms – so much more interesting than a single plain panel for sure. So, when picking curtains for your next room, why limit yourself to one choice; pick two and layer those babies! Happy decorating!
